FERN and FoodSAMSA are co-organizing a methodological webinar series aimed at advancing the understanding of methodological approaches useful in food environment research. This series is delivered ahead of FERN2023 expected to be held in November this year.
The first of such series, titled "Spatial analysis of community nutrition and the local food environment” was delivered by Dr Michelle Eichinger from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, via Zoom, on Wednesday, April 26th 2023, from 13:00 – 14:00 pm (CET).
Dr Michelle Eichinger's presentation welcomed about 47 participants including public health practitioners, researchers lecturers and students interested in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in food environment research.
In her presentation, Dr Eichinger elaborated on multiples application of GIS and related data analysis (spatial analysis) in addressing communities' food environment, informing policy decisions, or supporting real-time monitoring of changes in food environments. She also provided examples of its application in other countries. Her presentation was followed by a Q&A session.
