Dennis Odai Laryea MBChB MSc FGCP

Dr Laryea is a Senior Specialist in Public Health with the Ghana Health Service. He trained as a physician and following postgraduate trainings in Public Health in the UK and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons has been engaged in full time Public Health practice in Ghana since 2008. At the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana where he was the Head of the Public Health Unit from 2012 to 2016, he was instrumental in changing public health practice in a hospital setting through strong collaboration with clinical departments, strengthening of communicable and non-communicable disease surveillance and the development of human resource capacity for public health. He is also an academic and was a part-time lecturer in Public Health for 7 years at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana where he taught undergraduate pharmacy students, principles and practice of public health. Currently the Programme Manager for Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ghana Health Service, he is the technical lead in the revision of Ghana’s NCD Policy and Strategic Plan. His other areas of interest include data quality assessment and improvement, multisectoral collaboration mechanisms, strengthening human resource for NCD prevention and control and research.
